Social Psychology Task

 Aim:

The aim of my questionnaire is to investigate perceptions of gender difference in obedience and different situations.

Hypothesis - My prediction is that their will be difference in obedience levels found amongst women compared to men. There will be no difference between men and women if there is it will only be due to chance.

Procedure:

Methodology - I decided to carry out my practical through a questionnaire this is when you read questions and it is followed up by a written response, this could be sentences or tick options. Questionnaires usually don't take place face to face. If they do take place face to face the researcher must not communicate with the participant for any reasons other than explaining something to them. I chose to use a questionnaire because of its key strengths like the fact participants do not feel influenced to give a answer because the researcher is not present, the questionnaire can be done anonymously so the participants are more likely to be honest with their answers. Also, it is less time consuming because most of the answers are tick boxes. Whereas, in an interview you are unable to answer questions anonymously because both the researcher and respondent will be present. Moreover, it is more limited with the answers you are able to give due to the respondent feeling like they are not able to be fully honest if the researcher is present and they are prompting them towards a certain answer. I used a questionnaire because of the current pandemic going on with Covid 19 this has meant people are having to isolate and with certain lock down rules we are unable to mix. The questionnaire allows respondents to answer the questions safely and following the government guidelines and stopping an spreading of the disease any further. Furthermore, the questionnaire was the most cost effective due to it not costing anything to set up or send out for respondents to answer. I used both open and closed ended questions it allowed the participants to give answers of their choice as well as only being able to answer some to an extent of their own choice. The open questions allow them to give their perspective allowing them to be honest but this could also be a problem with the questionnaire because some people may choose not to answer the question truthfully and follow what is trending in society. This will cause the data that has been collected to be invalid.

Sampling method - I decide to go with the volunteer sample. This is when participants volunteer to take part in your questionnaire through an advertisement or saying yes to taking part after being asked. I used volunteer sample because it meant they were giving some form of consent to take part due to them willingly saying yes and volunteering. I decided to go with this type of sample instead of going with opportunity sampling which could cause some sort of bias. The researcher may become more bias because they are then able to pick and choose who they want to take part and the people they do not want to take part. My sample choice was 12 participants that ranged from the age of 10-30 and were of different genders so my sample was more representative and generalisable. I went with the ethical choice of volunteer sampling because it meant i was able to ask respondents to take part as long as they agreed and volunteered. I used a variety of open and closed questions , 8 closed and 2 open, this meant participants were able to feel like they could give an answer of their own choice. I was able to message participants after the questionnaire to debrief them and thank them for taking part in my questionnaire. My questions involved different situations and scenarios in which they had to answer who would most likely be the most obedient.

My questionnaire took place on google forms. I set up my google forms and questions i then sent the ink out via messages to the people that had already volunteered to take part. I told them what my questionnaire was about and that i was hoping to find results from them once they had all took part. I then debriefed my participants once they had said they had completed my questionnaire and made sure they were fully aware of what my aim was for this. I also allowed them to see the results of my questionnaire on google forms which was also a reason i chose to use this website because it gave me options to make the questionnaire less time consuming and more efficient.

In conclusion, my questionnaire has shown me that the respondents that took part believe women are more obedient than men in most situations. This proves that there is still gender inequality and that one gender still is more obedient towards an authority figure more so than the other gender.
