Social Psychology - GRAVEC

Firstly, my questionnaire lacks generalisability. My sample is limited due to it being a volunteer sample so the sample is bias to an extent. Due to it being a volunteer sample there were only 12 participants that took part and the majority of the participants were female (83.3%). Therefore, it does not represent the wider society's views towards obedience in gender and in different situations.

Also, my questionnaire was high in test re test reliability. This is because all my participants had the same questions and they were worded in the same exact way and in the same order. I ensured this happened by sending all the participants the same link to my questionnaire to answer them. Therefore, this meant my questionnaire's results would be more reliable because when the answers were submitted by participants, google form presented the new quantitative results each time another questionnaire was submitted.

Furthermore, my questionnaire is high in ecological validity. My aim before the questionnaire was to find out peoples perceptions towards obedience in different genders and situations. My questionnaire enabled participants to answer the questions and scenarios with the gender they thought would most likely be obedient in that situation. Therefore, my study has high ecological validity because i was able to find out what i was looking for for example a question was 'If a teacher asked a student to hand out books who would be more obedient' the results came back as 91.7% of the participants voted for the female students.

Additionally, my questionnaire upheld ethical guidelines. In my questionnaire my participants were part of a volunteer sample which meant they gave consent to taking part in my survey. I debriefed my participants at the end of the survey as well as keeping their identity anonymous this upheld the ethical side of confidentiality and privacy. Therefore, my questionnaire did uphold ethical guidelines making my survey fair and gaining the data i needed in the correct ethical manner.

In conclusion, I believe my questionnaire helped me find my aim to prove different genders and situations cause different levels of obedience. Whilst doing this I was able to uphold most guidelines and make the questionnaire fair and it worked well in the current pandemic.

Generalisabilty:

Range of age 10-30 -

This showed that people of different age ranges have the same views towards obedience in gender and situations. Sexism is still a big problem and society has not moved on from this. This was that women are more obedient then men.

It can not be applied to the wider society -

My sample was only small and at a target population. Therefore it is not generalisable because people above the age of 30 did not take part also not many males took part in my questionnaire. Therefore, the results found may not be as accurate as the could have been if i used a wider target population.

Reliability:

My questionnaire can be repeated easily-

My questions can be reused by someone else to find the same or similar results or even different if they use a wider target population. My survey can be seen when the link is pressed and my results are available. Therefore, it is easily replicable by someone who wants to try and find some results for the same study.

Test re test reliability makes it easy for it to be replicated

High inter rater reliability-

The questions are focused and mainly closed questions, so if this questionnaire was to be redone similar results would be found. This survey allowed consistency of answers throughout making it easy to replicate. The questions aren't difficult or tricky to answer so it is reliable that the respondents would understand the concept of the question and be able to understand them and answer them truthfully.

Application:

This questionnaire can be applied to the real world and real life-

This will help us understand that there is still inequality between the two genders. My questionnaire proved that people still do believe that women are more obedient than men in society. Women are more obedient towards authority figures whereas men are not in society. Society has shown a trend in sexism and the division of both genders and it has proved that society needs to work harder to change this.

Validity:

Social trends may have affected results -

Due to questions being pointed towards questions in society it may have caused some people to be less truthful about their answers making the questionnaire invalid. This could mean that fake answers could affect it and cause inaccurate results. People may have been answering the questions to live up to societal views and thoughts instead of their own personal beliefs.

Strong external validity -

The questionnaire is valid because it isn't something unnatural. Questionnaires are becoming more common to fill out so people are becoming use to filling them out and giving their opinion. This helps increase ecological validity. This way of finding results does not cause any psychological problems making them valid and meaning the results are more reliable.

Results -

My results may have been affected because i used data questions within my 10 questions instead of extras. Therefore it wasn't fair because there wasn't a wide range of questions to gain results from.

Ethics:

Confidentiality and privacy was upheld-

My participants identity was hidden and no personal information was used or shown on results. My participants were asked if they wanted to take part and they were then debriefed over messages at the end. The questionnaire did not ask anything in which it would affect someones psychological thoughts because it is something normal and common to do.

Right to withdraw-

I did not tell participants individually that they were able to withdraw from the questionnaire even though this is something that should have been upheld. Participants may have felt obligated to take part in the questionnaire and may have felt like they were unable to change their mind.

In conclusion, the questionnaire found results that were needed to be found such as the difference of obedience in gender. However, some ethical guidelines like the right to withdraw were not upheld fully.
