Psychology - Methodology task

 Introduction:

The agency theory is the relationship between someone who is an authority figure in society or someone you look up to as an authority figure and someone who is agents in society and agents towards the people they class as an authority figure. It is when someone believes the authority figure will take responsibility for the consequences of their actions. My aim that i want in my practical is to investigate obedience in genders and different situations. I believe that i will find that a difference in obedience will be shown through the different genders and situations.

Method:

I chose to do my practical through a questionnaire  because it is structured unlike an interview. I used some open ended questions because it allowed respondents to answer the questions in a way that they choose to. This ensures the respondents don't feel restricted about how they answer their question. i also used closed ended questions because it meant it was easier to score for quantitative data because i w=am aware of the possible answers beforehand. I used a questionnaire because it was less time consuming. I was able to distribute my survey through messages and my respondents were able to fill it in as soon as they received it. However, if i was to use an interview type it would mean it was more time consuming and it would take longer to complete as well as the researcher needing a particular skill and training.

I used volunteer sampling this meant i told respondents before hand what my survey was studying and asked if they wished to take part. I told them they had the right to withdraw at any point and i sent my survey off to people ages between 10-30. I used this type of technique to ensure i had a range of people who wanted to take part in my survey but also met the requirements such as age. 12 people took part in my survey which also met my sample size requirement of 10-15.

I told the respondents that i was taking a survey that looked into obedience in different genders and situations. I then continued to ask if they wanted to take part in my survey and help me find out more about obedience in gender and situations. I wrote my survey up d=ready to be distributed to people aged between 10-30. I told my respondents what my survey was about and sent the link and asked them to take part if they wished to i reminded them at this point that they had they right to withdraw and do this at any point. Once they had completed my survey they received a message of my survey saying thank you for taking part. Participants also messaged ensuring me they had competed it i then continued to thank them for taking part and asked how they found it. My aim was to see what peoples perceptions were who were ages 10-30 were towards obedience in gender and situations.

Discussion:

I believe my results show that dependent on who you believe is a authority figure depends on whether you would obey and follow their orders. The quantitative data for the question of whether you believe it is more important to follow the orders of someone who has a higher status in society shows that PPs believe that it is equal due to the results of 50% saying yes and 50% saying no. The qualitative data shows that both genders should be and are equal in society.
